About Duncan Power

Duncan is a senior executive committed to developing “sustainability and scale” in projects that create meaningful impact for the most vulnerable in society, particularly women and people living with disability.

For Duncan, the COVID-19 pandemic further exposed the growing inequality gap, reinforcing the sentiment expressed by Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Muhammad Yunus that there is now “no going back.” The question moving forward is whether a more equitable world can be built on a foundation of trust and integrity through a three-fold approach:

  1. Can we develop an associative economics that balances the ‘maximum profit at all costs’ corporate structure which accentuates the richest shareholders getting super rich?
  2. Can we generate a fair legal system for all, and equality amongst all peoples regardless of faith, gender, monetary background and;
  3. Can we generate a freedom for all people to pursue their own cultural and educational dreams whilst at the same time implementing best environmental practice in our lives?

A key focus of Duncan’s work is advancing ‘social businesses’ as a viable and sustainable model, alongside entrepreneurial education. This approach aims to provide both an anchor and a parachute for disadvantaged communities, empowering people to lift themselves out of poverty while creating deeper fulfilment for themselves, their families, and their communities.

In doing so, the conversation can extend beyond national GDP growth to also consider the development and prosperity of poor communities, supporting a sustainable and viable future for humankind.

When Duncan looks ahead, an important question remains: what actions can be taken today so that, when society reflects in 2030, it can confidently say that it has contributed to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by all United Nations Member States?
